$1 Billion Modernization Underway at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point

The Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point in Craven County, North Carolina, started a $1 billion modernization project to transform the base to support six F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter squadrons, ABC News12 reported.

The initiative, which is expected to take two years to implement, includes updates to existing infrastructure, construction of new facilities, and upgrades to utilities and roads.

Key features of the construction project include three advanced aircraft maintenance hangars, a new air traffic control tower, an airfield operations building, a range support facility, and a state-of-the-art F-35 simulator facility. According to officials, the enhancements aim to increase aviation operational capabilities.
