ConstructConnect Announces Promotion of Michael Guckes to Chief Economist
Cincinnati, Ohio, July 8, 2024—ConstructConnect, a leading construction information and analytics provider, announced Michael Guckes’s promotion to Chief Economist today.
Guckes joined ConstructConnect in 2022, bringing a wealth of experience in construction and manufacturing economics. Before joining ConstructConnect, he served as the Chief Economist for Gardner Business Media, covering a wide range of manufacturing sectors. Earlier in his career, Guckes was a leading economist for the Ohio Department of Transportation, specializing in construction economics.

“Michael’s deep understanding of the construction economy and his ability to provide insightful analysis has been invaluable to ConstructConnect, our customers, the media, and his followers in the industry,” said Jennifer Johnson, Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer of ConstructConnect. “We are thrilled to have him take on the role of Chief Economist, where he will continue to drive our economic research and thought leadership initiatives.”
Since joining ConstructConnect, Guckes has distinguished himself as a leading voice for the construction economy. He has provided in-depth analysis and insights that have helped ConstructConnect clients make more informed decisions. He regularly presents on ConstructConnect’s biannual Construction Economy Webcast, speaks at industry events, and contributes to construction and finance publications. Guckes’ commentary and analysis have been published by leading news providers such as Construction Dive, USA Today, and Marketplace from American Public Media (APM).
In his new role, Guckes will lead ConstructConnect’s economic research and analysis, providing industry-leading insights and commentary on evolving demand patterns, labor and supply chain issues, construction financing, economic indicators, and forecasts. He holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from Kenyon College and an MBA from The Ohio State University.
Guckes’ promotion to Chief Economist comes as the former Chief Economist, Alex Carrick, retires after a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades. Carrick has been a fixture in the construction industry, serving as ConstructConnect’s Canadian Chief Economist and later expanding his role to include the US market. He has written many articles and delivered countless presentations on the US and Canadian economic and construction outlooks.
“Alex’s contributions to ConstructConnect and the broader construction industry have been invaluable, and we wish him all the best in his retirement,” said Johnson. “We are confident that Michael Guckes will build upon Alex’s legacy and continue to provide our customers with the exceptional economic reports, analysis, and insights they have come to expect.”
