In an era when some professional sports teams are relocating to new states or demanding new arenas, it might be surprising to see one investing heavily in upgrading its home base. The NHL’s Nashville Predators are doing exactly that, unveiling a $650 million plan to completely transform Bridgestone Arena.

According to the team, the project will expand the arena’s footprint by approximately 170,000 square feet. This includes new bars, restaurants, and the addition of 600 to 700 seats. The Predators also plan to transform the main entrance into an open-air but covered space, making it accessible in all weather conditions and offering more views of downtown Nashville’s Broadway district.

“That’s our core goal at the end of the day, is to take care of all the folks that come to the building and make their experience that much better,” Predators and Bridgestone Arena Chief Strategy Officer Kyle Clayton said in a news release on the team’s website. “We want to make [the Arena] as vibrant and energetic as Broadway is.”

Work is expected to begin in 2026, with the goal of finishing in 2030. The arena, which is one of the country’s busiest, will close during the summer months of 2027, 2028, and 2029 to help reach that goal.

Will another sports team move to Bridgestone Arena?

The Predators’ announcement comes at the same time former Governor Bill Haslam is looking to lure a future WNBA team to town. If his bid is successful, the Tennessee Summitt (named after University of Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt) would call Bridgestone Arena home in 2028.

Nashville’s other big stadium projects

Around the corner from Bridgestone Arena, work has already begun on the new $2.1 billion stadium for the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. The new Nissan Stadium is expected to be ready in 2027, and it’s the hope of the Titans that it will eventually attract the College Football Playoffs, WWE Wrestlemania, and the NFL’s Super Bowl.

Further down the line, a group of investors is seeking to bring a Major League Baseball team to Nashville. In March 2025, the group announced a partnership to look for land where a pro-baseball stadium could be built.

Amid Music City’s stadium and arena excitement, the upcoming improvements at Bridgestone Arena reflect the Predators’ commitment to Nashville. The team signed a 30-year lease extension in 2019, ensuring Bridgestone Arena will be their home for decades to come.
