Kuna, Idaho, is a small city of about 28,000 people in the southwestern part of the state. Within the next several years, though, it’s expected to see nearly $2 billion in investments, courtesy of two massive data center projects.
In early April 2025, developer Dioide Ventures announced plans to build a data center on 620 acres of land in the city. According to Diode, the project will create 800 to 1,200 temporary construction jobs and 100 permanent jobs after completion.
The developer also states the project will require at least $1 billion in private funding. No timetable for construction has been publicly announced. The Idaho Statesman reports Diode has “not yet determined” what company will eventually operate the data center.
We do know who will operate Kuna’s other data center project, however. Facebook parent company Meta is behind the 960,000 square foot project, just a few miles away from where Diode’s would be.
Meta announced and broke ground on the $800 million project back in 2022. According to the tech giant, their data center in Kuna is creating 1,000 temporary construction jobs and around 100 permanent jobs. Construction on this site, being handled by Hensel Phelps, is expected to finish later this year.
Data centers have become big business in recent years, especially in more remote parts of the US. These massive facilities house the IT infrastructure needed to power websites, cloud-based services, and the burgeoning AI industry.
Meta has quickly become a major player in data center construction. When it was originally announced in February 2022, the Kuna project was Meta’s 15th U.S.-based data center. On April 9, 2025, Meta revealed plans for its 24th—this one in Bowling Green, Ohio.
With the addition of Diode Ventures’ announced project, Kuna, Idaho looks to follow the lead of cities like Mesa, Arizona, which is not only getting a Meta data center of its own, but also ones from Amazon, Google, and NTT.
