Before stepping down from heading the State of Washington, Gov. Jay Inslee approved the Wautoma Solar Project on January 9, 2025. The $400 million infrastructure project will become the state’s largest solar farm.
Located in Benton County, Washington, the 470-megawatt facility will feature 1.3 million solar panels and a battery energy storage system, providing power to around 300,000 homes. Officials said that up to 225 commercial construction jobs in over two years are anticipated for its construction.

According to Innergex, the Canadian company behind the project and public records, the power project’s total area spans 5,852 acres, of which around 3,000 are expected for solar panels, energy storage, and transmission structures.

Construction is expected to begin in 2028, with operations starting in 2030. Innergex plans to prioritize local hiring of contractors and sourcing of nearby materials, it said in a press release. The company is also taking responsibility for financing the project. Following completion, it will operate and maintain the development.
